Logistics strategy is one of the strategies of enterprises on the market offering a range of long-term and coordinated decisions and actions including location, transportation, warehousing, inventory management and customer service, aimed at achieving a competitive advantage. Strategic choices regarding logistics companies are dependent on many factors, both related to its internal potential, as well as conditions in the environment, including changes in macroeconomic, regulatory, demographic, social, infrastructural or technological. Dynamic changes observed on global markets mainly due to the economic slowdown but also as in the case of Japan the effect of natural disasters, are the main reason for the need to take into account the new operating conditions in global logistics strategies of Japanese corporations. A particularly interesting direction of research in this area is to analyze the impact of current and projected macroeconomic situation on strategic decisions and actions of the Japanese logistics enterprises in European countries with different levels of development and completely different socio-economic realities. Such analyzes are useful not only from the perspective of managers in order to improve the competitiveness of enterprises, are also important from the perspective of local authorities interested in shaping good relationships with Japanese investors. The aim of the study is to identify macroeconomic factors that may affect the need to make changes in logistics strategies of Japanese companies in European countries. For the comparative analyzes have been selected: U.K. - one of the largest recipients of Japanese investments in Europe and Poland - perceived by Japan as a strategic partner in its relations with the countries of the EU. Presented considerations are part of a research project called "Management methods in Japanese supply chains in Poland and the U.K.", funded by the National Science Centre.
Supply Chain Management offer long-term stability for business volumes confidence contractual relationship and the possibility of greater efficiency and optimization of the entire supply chain. On the other hand, it follows the seasonal peaks and dips of orders by customers (which is due to optimal management of adverse event). At the same time, while a clear definition of the rules sets, but also limits the possibility of regulating the system. This compels us to address the appropriate setting of customer portfolio, the optimal level of customer engagement in SCM system, and finding alternative ways of regulating the system. SCM system brings the risk in case of loss, leaving the customer with a relatively high utilization of production capacities - resources in a supply undertaking. It is therefore necessary to determine the level of risk, and the volume capacity and commitment to the SCM system, and define management options, in case of loss of the customer within the SCM.
The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the consistency of performance indicators related to logistics processes in the selected manufacturing company. Research explores two basic questions: 1) which performance indicators are applied in measuring and assessing logistics processes and 2) how are defined attributes of performance indicators, which should create a consistent system for measuring and evaluating performance. The consistency in this case is based on the homogenous definition of attributes relating to the performance indicator as a basic element of performance management system (PMS). Coming from the previous research, we defined four groups of attributes relating to the performance indicator: formal attributes, attributes of target value, informational attributes and attributes of evaluation. The whole set contains 21 attributes. The research results have got an implication for business practice in assuring logistic processes. If manufacturing companies applied the homogenous set of attributes of performance indicator it would increase the effectiveness of their management systems. Consistency of the management system including performance management system is one of the main best practice principles.
Firms permanently search for new methods and instruments of performance improvement, as well as for strategies and operational programs affecting business competitive advantage achievement and maintenance. During the recent years, one may notice the progressive growth of logistics significance as a management concept influencing economic outcomes (profit, profitability, ROA, ROE, ROI) and market outcomes (customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, market share) achievement by a firm. In particular, more and more frequently managerial re-evaluations in the logistics concept are emphasised. The paper points at logistics concept development within business management. There are four basic stages in logistics concept development: (1) Logistics as a service function (transport, warehousing, reloading, packaging, labelling, etc.), (2) Logistics as a function of coordination of materials, goods and information flow, (3) Logistics as an integrated management of materials, goods and information flow within a firm, (4) Logistics as an integrated management of materials, goods and information flow within the whole supply chain. Apart from the literature studies, the article also refers to the research conducted in the Chair of Logistics and Marketing at Opole University, Poland, concerning the following logistics determinants of business management: flow orientation, logistics competences, logistics strategies, logistics management tools, logistics planning, organizational solutions in logistics, and logistics controlling.
Business success is based, among other things, on the ability to manage the company and affect its position in the network structure of supplier-customer relations. Internal but especially external processes situated between the company and its suppliers have an important role in optimization of business environment. Optimization of the supply chain is one of the tools, it means, optimization of a system created by business processes of all organisations which are directly or indirectly involved in meeting customer requirements. It is therefore an optimization on the level of producers, suppliers but also transporters, wholesalers and warehouses, retailers and ultimately the customers themselves. The supply chain characterized by reversible flow of material, financial and information flows between its individual levels. Material flows represent the distribution of new products in the direction from suppliers to customers, then in the opposite direction the products are especially forwarded in the process of reverse logistics for the purpose of service, recycling or their disposal; we can not forget also the financial and information flows. Thus, the supply chain includes subjects and processes at various levels, part of processes works in parallel; streams in the chain are divided into network structure. We can say that the supply chain can represent a multi-level network which does not have to include all levels from producers over consumers.
The paper deals with use of oriented connections in these networks and their possible analysis using precedent matrices.
This paper presents importance and the benefits of integration of circular economy in supply chain management. The main aim of this paper is to implicate of circular economy principles across the supply chain. The paper provides an overview of the current status of circular model for a new perspective in supply chain management. Sustainable supply chain management has become a strategic process enabling organizations to create competitive advantage. Cradle-to-cradle approach and holistic view of the product supply chain is a fundamental step for establishing more sustainable production systems. The Circular Economy is designed as a circular model for a new perspective of the linkage between resource flow and economic issues in contrast to the existing open-ended models of classic production processes.
Modern logistics supply systems are becoming more and more complex. The complexity of these systems is multi-dimensional, namely: structural, spatial and temporal. Structural complexity is a function of three variables: the total number of elements that make up a system, the number of different types of elements that make up the structure of a system and the number of active connections between system components. The spatial complexity is associated with the extent of a system in space, that is, with a scale which includes this system. Time complexity is due to the volatile behaviour of a system over the course of time. The disruption risk within supply chains, particularly in global ones, has become more and more important because of the efforts to minimize costs (Lean Manufacturing, Lean Logistics, and Lean Management), reducing the number of suppliers according to the "4S" principle (a Single Source Supply Strategy), introducing Just In Time Manufacturing system to a greater extent, minimizing the level of minimal buffers, configuring tightly connected supply chains, and increasing number and intensity of the external threats. In the paper method for assessing supply chain resilience was proposed.
The strategy of resistance can be realized in a passive or active way. The passive option focuses only on securing the supply chain from the dangers of the environment. The Active attitude relies on searching for new solutions in the case of breaking the chain. A Resilient supply chain is a one in which the entities are aware of the value creation for the customer while adhering to the common rules.
Studies suggest that the characteristics of Japanese culture facilitate engaging in numerous supply chains, making them resilient to threats.
In the article The author will present in the article the cultural characteristics of the Japanese and to confirm these characteristics one of global organizations, which entities are suppliers to many of the components, not only in the automotive industry.
The purpose of this study is to examine the development of research in the field of supply chain risk management. Recently threatens disruption of supply chains disasters and terrorist attacks. Risks in the supply chain are examined in terms of sources of risk, the consequences of management measures, including risk categorization. Focusing on performance in terms of efficiency in the supply chain provides risk management options. Risk management allows you to create a strategy for addressing the specific strategies in developing supply chains.

Performance measurement is a topic which is often discussed by both academics and practitioners but it is complicated by its multi-dimensional nature. One way of overcoming the inherent complexity of performance measurement system might be to employ structured design methodologies. With respect to the preliminary results of a study into the use of process approach for the design of performance measurement systems in other countries such solutions were analyzed.. The empirical findings are compared to the attributes of a good performance measurement system adopted from the literature. The purpose of the article was an analysis of the applied methods as far as the allocation of judiciary permanent posts is concerned, the quantity of the inflow of cases and the organizational structure of the common courts in relation to the identified faultiness in the performance measurement. On the basis of the research and the analysis of good practice presented in the foreign literature, directions of creating a system of measurement have been pointed out, according to the process approach and the application of solutions in the area of logistics.
Innovation and technology play an important role in improving productivity in logistics chains. Having enough articles in one’s warehouse does not suffice to meet increasing customer requirements. It is essential for us to have the ability to provide the required components in almost real time without increasing our operational costs of on-time delivery. Industry 4.0 envisions to further eliminate inventory at all levels of supply chain management so as to be able to operate on 100% service level which necessitates dramatic reduction in cycle time of any operation of the warehouse picking process and also errorless systems in order to maintain high quality standards throughout the whole process. Systematic and structured project management is a tool that radically improve measures ensuring successful implementation of any contemporary and/or timeless approach towards the betterment of warehouse picking processes. It permits to avoid failure and increases the chances of efficient implementation.
The aim of this paper is to report on the research on awareness of ‘pick-by systems’, the use of the systematic project management approach, and to present the results of a survey conducted among Logistics specialists and key SCM stakeholders concerning utilization of the project management approach for successful implementation. Last but not least, the purpose of our research is to develop a project management-based guide plan serving to increase logistics productivity.
The effectiveness of logistics processes is still a current challenge for construction companies. Many construction enterprises do not achieve the satisfactory effectiveness level of these processes because they are not well managed. Barriers that make difficult the effectiveness of logistics processes management in construction enterprises are mainly due to their complexity, large number and diversity of business partners involved in the various stages of the processes, a geographical space dispersion, diversity of building materials and equipment on the building site. Moreover, the high demands of investors, tight schedules for construction works contribute the fact that there is a need to ensure a very good organization and management of logistics processes. One of the tools that can help to improve the effectiveness and good management of logistics processes are B2B systems integrated with ERP systems that confirmed the research conducted by OPTeam SA.
The aim of the article is to present the concept of logistics processes management in the B2B system OPTIbud that is created as a result of R&D project called "The prototype of an innovative and technologically advanced OPTIbud B2B platform that supports the management of construction processes through the integration of data and information from multiple sources", funded by the National Research and Development Centre under the INNOTECH program, Hi-Tech path.

The effective flow management at the entrance into a company or an organization is one of the presumptions of total economic prosperity of given company or an organization of tertiary sphere. A purchasing or a purchasing department is one of the company’s functional part, which should be given due attention. If a company wants to reach high level of a competitive advantage level, in context of long-term sustainable growth, so the company should have developed progressive system of purchasing management. The application of logistics management principles, at present time of global supply chains, is turned out as entirely essential at whole enterprise level. In the course of a design or an optimization of logistics management systems of a purchasing, it should be proceeded with the usage of system analysis and process management approaches.
The article deals with the issue of purchasing logistics management system design, when for the design purposes of these management systems in an industry or a tertiary sphere, the general methodics has been created.
This paper offers a new perspective on factors influencing the results of reverse electronic auctions (e-auctions) in purchase. Using the expert-performance approach established by Ericsson and Towne (2010), we examine the claim by Smeltzer and Carr (2002) that qualified and experienced buyers tend to perform better in e-auctions. Financial savings is used as the measure of the performance. Repeated execution of e-auctions, practitioner’s conference participation and positive feedback from supervisors are considered to be the factors of ‘deliberate practice’ described in Ericsson and Towne (2010). ANOVA is used as a statistical method to examine the data from e-auctions conducted by Czech and Slovak organizations. We conclude that all other contingencies being equal, the higher expertise leads to higher savings.
The main purpose of this article is to show how it can be used Hamiltonian graphs and their property in the software designing and testing. In the article there are described regression testing, portability tests, for which is shown the application of Hamiltonian graphs and basic knowledge of graph theory that are necessary to understand the content of the research conducted in a frame of R&D project called "The prototype of an innovative and technologically advanced OPTIbud B2B platform that supports the management of construction processes through the integration of data and information from multiple sources", funded by the National Research and Development Centre under the INNOTECH program, Hi-Tech path.
In the article it is shown the application of the traveling salesman problem in testing. The main problem of using Hamiltonian graphs is explained on the example of Polish construction companies, which use auctions and it is shown on the example of using B2B OPTIbud system. Results of the research show the advantages of using Hamiltonian cycle in software development and testing.
In connection with the new focus on the European transport network TEN-T is very important to focus the logistics research on proposal of public logistics centers with access to the intermodal transport network. In terms of transport externalities and the capacity of existing transport infrastructure, for future transportation of goods within the EU are very perspective inland waterways and rail network. Especially for inland water transport, there are capacity reserves for the transport of other commodity flows. The Czech Republic prepares projects for full navigability of the river Elbe and Vltava, which will enable full navigability from Czech ports to the seaport of Hamburg and other northern European seaports. Inland waterway ports may become important intermodal terminals. During the project of a new public logistics center in Pardubice, East Bohemia, which will be end port on the Elbe waterway, a new methodology of design was created and is described in this lecture.
