List of Abstracts 2015: SESSION D - REVERSE LOGISTICS
Date: November 6, 2015
Current body of research presents many factors, which influence the performance of reverse logistic; however the attention payed to the different factors, as demonstrated by number of existing research papers, varies very much. Process management, its tools and its maturity level belong to the group that is under-researched. The analysis presented in the paper is based on cluster analysis, which integrates several variables reflecting process management practices. Three groups of companies built upon the empirical data from Czech firms are then compared in terms of managerial approach to (and views on) reverse flows. The contribution of the text lies in the exploration of the differences in companies that utilize process management more and less intensively. In this respect the paper demonstrate that (1) business process management is related to effectiveness of reverse logistics and (2) it provides certain insight into the causal mechanism of this relationship.
Customer satisfaction represents one of the main drivers of reverse logistics management besides other financial and nonfinancial reasons of interest to engage in managing reverse flows. Customer satisfaction thus should be also one of the performance effects or outcomes of reverse logistics management. However, the link between a driver and an effect need not to be simple and straightforward due to the complexity of reality. The aim of the paper is to present results of the analysis of the rankings of reverse logistics management drivers and effects and correlations of customer satisfaction as the driver with different measures of effects of reverse logistics management. The findings from the empirical survey of 54 enterprises indicate that there is strong relationship between the level of perceived importance of this driver and perceived level of several prevalently market and effectiveness oriented effects on the contrary to internal efficiency oriented effects.
The paper presents results and outputs of the case study realized by the
Institute of Logistics in the selected production enterprise. The main
task of the study was to design a new way of waste management in this
enterprise. Important point was a definition of the created waste and also
the process of its creation. It means, that the case study formed several
analysis and used several methods. The primary idea was bases on the
principles and processes of reverse logistics. The selected methods for
the solution were the method of multi criterion decision making, namely
Saaty`s method and method of paired comparison. By the help of these
methods was determined the suitable way of waste management in the
enterprise and also selected the most suitable way for the created wastes
recycling.
The main purpose of this case study is to identify processes of knowledge management, information and communication technology (ICT) support, and reverse logistics and relations between them in a studied enterprise. Moreover, this study attempts to describe approaches and methods used for performance evaluation of identified processes. Although ICT support of reverse logistics was previously studied to some, the relations to knowledge management and performance evaluation in the reverse logistics context were not studied. Therefore, this study tries to fill this gap and introduce the possible directions for further study and testing. For an analysis, manufacturing enterprise with 1700 employees located in Czech Republic was chosen according to results of previous explorative quantitative survey. The reasons of choosing this company were twofold. Firstly, the head of the logistics department (respondent of the survey) was willing to provide initial interview and facilitated the access to company. Secondly, the company (as only one from the few) is supporting reverse logistics processes intensively with ICT, is evaluating ICT support performance and is involved in knowledge management initiatives. Therefore, the company serves as a good starting point for in-depth analysis and description best practices. Semi-structured interviews with the head of logistics department, human resource department and IT department were conducted. Interviews were analysed with qualitative data analysis. The case study reveals the mechanisms by which the company utilize relations between knowledge management, ICT support and reverse logistics.
Shared services have being effective step of leading big companies, corporate structured companies, as legally independent subject or part of organization structure in company after merge or complex structured company with plants or diversified production phases. The shared services, as Finance, Accounting, controlling or reporting departments, IT, HR, Purchase or Sales departments can make a saving by less overhead costs related with shared purchase services, purchase materials, logistic of warehouse, Sharing headcounts , providing shared services etc.
The important part of such shared services system is allocation of costs according defined rule. Such system is usually part of the month closing and has to follow the principles of reporting, cost controlling and other corporate rules. One of the possible principle for allocation costs is automatic system of cost charging as a part of month closing in diversified company .
